(c) 2001 Bert Barrett for 2-BZ Media Proverbs 16:3 Commit your work to the Lord, and then your plans will succeed. In this page, I will present the Christian perspective on the issues that I raise in my lyrics. I hate to say this but this page became necessary because of some of my feedback. It seems that some of you believe that even within the realm of those who represent God in their rhymes and more importantly in their daily walk, that there has to be division. We must be wise enough to recognize the enemy's plan will be to divide the saints of Positive Hip Hop. Here are my thoughts....after which I will share more closely the true biblical themes on which my work is built. I realize that to effectively minister, I have to be among those whom I am trying to reach. Paul said "I become one of them so that I can bring them to Christ." My particular calling is an evangelistic one with heavy emphasis on the youth. After years of prayer, I was instructed to present music that can find a brotha in his affliction, then reason with him right there. I asked God, "How can I know the afflicted, if I am apart from them?" "How can I know what to say, if I cannot listen to their hearts?" God revealed to me that I should NOT be apart from them and that I should listen to their hearts. He is after strong Christians, not brothas who are so afraid of their own past, that they are ineffective in ministry and obedience. God is raising up teams, and strategically places and uses us according to our talents. He does not make a perfect evangelist, and clone him several times. I listen to all forms of Hip Hop because I take my calling seriously and need to be aware of what the enemy is doing at all times. My joints cannot be sounding like I am an "apart from them" kind of brotha. Instead, I try to put out the hardest, most competitive Hip Hop that I possibly can...I serve God with a mad attitude...one that seeks to ask my brothas why they can't overcome, and see through the devil's game. I use the same terms, my ebonics is tight, my clothes are up to date, Tims on my feet...all that...I don't wear God on my shirt sleeve. Jesus' true identity was revealed by what he did, not necessarily by what He said. Spiritual
